Chantel Hobbs knows about losing weight and keeping it off. She lost 250 pounds herself and has maintained a healthy weight since then. In Love Food & Live Well, Chantel lets you in on "the deal." She tells you the deal you have to make with yourself to lose weight but more importantly to change your lifestyle for LIFE to a healthy one. Don't worry, Chantel's deal doesn't involve eating cardboard and beets only. It doesn't mean you can never have bread or sugar again, and she doesn't even tell you to run away from diet drinks or tea. Instead Chantel introduces her concept of the 80/20 rule.
The beginning of the book was a little sluggish for me. She goes into a lot of detail about her previous experience and her previous books. She talks about other people that she has met that have struggled with food. It's a good precursor and probably even necessary for a book like this, but I'm impatient! I wanted to see what she was selling so to speak. If you can read the beginning though, I think it helps you to take more seriously, the advice she is dishing. She has been there, she has seen other people in the overweight situation, and she has helped them.
Like all selfhelp books, this isn't going to blow you away, change your core beliefs, or become a new cult to follow. It will however give you a strategy for losing weight and maintaining that weight loss. It will give you a "diet" that isn't like any other one I have seen. It will educate you on nutrition. It will show you show new recipes and new exercises to try. It will confirm that God must be involved in every big decision we make in order to have success in that decision.
I recommend you pick it up. If you need to lose weight or are looking for a boost to your current diet, read this book. If you are skinny but live on french fries and soda, pick it up! She has done her research (heck she is her research!) and she can give you some great tips for life!
I received this book free from WaterBrook Multnomah Poblishing Group for this review. All opinions are my own.
