The latest product I was able to try was the new Jello Temptations. I received a coupon for a FREE 3 pack of Temptations and a high value coupon to give to a friend. The Temptations were fabulous! We tried the French Silk Pie. They were light, creamy, and full of flavor. The calorie count on these is low. You will feel like you are having a full fat dessert, but you aren't! The price is reasonable and lots of coupons are available for these right now! We were able to find our package at WalMart. They are located in the dairy aisle with other refridgerated puddings. If you are into convenience, value, and taste look for new Jello Temptations available in 6 flavors!

I received a free sample of this product from Kraft First Taste for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own.

This Looks Like Fun! 5 Question Friday

1. If you could buy any car, money not an option, what would it be?

A brand new Toyota Sienna with a key fob and automatic doors!!!!!! Seriously!!!! I want one BAD! If someone wins the lottery or just has an extra pile of cash around....feel free to buy us one! Any color but white please!

2. What was your worst first date ever?
Worst first date.......hmmm...... I don't know about first date but Hubby and I had some pretty interesting ones. The first time we went out together (it wasn't a date because we were dating other people...uh yea..) we stopped at McDonalds drive thru for some ice cream. I asked for a McFlurry, he ordered it, and the lady gave us the total. He started LOUDLY saying "Three dollars for a little ice cream! That's outrageous! Why would ice cream be so high!" (We were college students.) I'm looking at him like he's crazy and we pull around. The drive thru lady leans out the window and very loudly and rudely says "It's not ice cream sir. It's something you eat." Hysterical laughter ensued. He was kidding. I later learned he loves joking like that and getting a reaction out of people. We still laugh every time we go to that McDs. It's something you eat.....

3. How old were you when you fell in love for the first time?
Ugh...... I said I was in love the first time about 15..... I really didn't fall in love until I met hubby when I was 18. Once you find that real true love, it's so funny thinking back to the previous "loves." I hope my children guard that words and their hearts until God places the one He has for them right in front of them!

4. When was the last time you reconciled your checkbook?
Yesterday..... I only balance it on Hubby's paydays. The other 14 days in between I close my eyes and pretend it isn't my responsibility! I really should do better.... I worked in the financial industry BK (before kids)!

5. If you were going to fashion a "Wanted" Ad for a best friend, how would you word it?
I have lots of fabulous be a Bestie though you have to:
1. Meet for lunch with no kids with other besties once per month
2. Call me when you find a fabulous deal I can't live without
3. Zumba with me twice a week
4. Celebrate New Years together complete with terrible singing on Singstar and awesome dancing with Just Dance
5. Laugh at years worth of inside jokes including things like Rap Master J and bad beach experiences

We recently had the privilege of trying Brickstix!
Brickstix are fun accessories for Legos, Megablocks, etc! These reusable clings are durable and unique! There are several different themed sets. We received the Metro Set. Each set has 2 sheets of clings. There are clings for your child's characters, signs, buildings, and more! You can buy Brickstix on their website.

Apple and Speedy really like the Brickstix. They were a little frustrated that some of the clings were too big for our particular Lego set. They enjoyed all the choices though and have pulled them out several times since they first arrived!

I like them too! I enjoy that they are an accessories to toys that most homes already own! Instead of buying all new Legos, we can just buy new Brickstix! I was disappointed that both sheets were identical. I was expecting different clings on each set. While I would have been more impressed with a bigger variety, at least with 2 identical sets Speedy & Apple didn't fight over them. Actually Apple has never been interested in Legos at all until these arrived! I think the clings make the blocks more interesting for her because she is able to use her imagination and creativity more with them.

Go check out Brickstix! Each set is only $5.99!

I received this product from PTPA Media for the purpose of review. The opinions are my own.

Review: Too Rich For A Bride

Too Rich for a Bride - Mona Hodgson

Mona Hodgson has done a terrific job in Too Rich For A Bride. This is one of the best fiction books I have read in a long time! This is the story of Ida Sinclair and her move to the West. Ida goes to join her married sisters in Cripple Creek, Colorado. She heads West with the intention of working in the world of business. Business was still a world for men in this time and even Ida's business school time did not earn her respect in the field. She takes a job with THE business lady in town. Unfortunately her new boss is not respected or looked upon fairly in the town.

Ida gets entangled with two totally opposite men. She came to town with romance as the last thing on her mind, but it is taking up more of her time than her new job! Of course her match making landlady and two sisters are encouraging the relationships. We journey with Ida through those first few months full of mishaps, disagreements, holidays, and new friendships.

Ms. Hodgson does a wonderful job with her character development and the story flows smoothly. The characters become endearing and it's easy to get caught up in the little world of Cripple Creek. You will hold your breath to the end waiting on Ida to find God's path for her. My only complaint is that it all seemed to end too soon!

Look for Too Rich For A Bride and the first book in The Sinclair Sisters of Cripple Creek series- Two Brides Too Many.

I received this book from the Waterbrook Multnomah Blogging for Books program for the purpose of reviewing it. All opinions were my own and not influenced by the publisher or author.

A few Walmart Deals

Tide Travel size .97- $1 P&G Booklet CPN= +.03

Iron Man Arc Light $3.50- $3 SCPN= .50

Snickers Eggs $1 each x 10= $10 - $2/2 SCPN- $1/ 2 ICPN- $1/ 2 All You CPN- $1/2 All You CPN= 10/ $5

The cashier did try to fuss with me a little over the Tide but the coupon said $1 off Tide Laundry Detergent. There was no size limit. He probably wouldn't have even noticed but I had 4. I stuck to the writing on the coupon though (NOT the picture) and he took them off.

Also according to, there will be no inserts this Sunday! Think I will use the time this week that I would have been clipping coupons to organize my binder a little more and pull out coupons for Coupon Night! Don't forget to bring your expired coupons with you! We will tell you what to do with those (they will be sent to military families!)!

Happy Easter to you all! I hope you know all about our Savior Jesus and what His death on the cross means for us all!

Curious about Couponing?

So maybe you've read some blogposts or you've seen "Extreme Couponing" and you're curious about coupons but you don't know how to get started.......

Here's a response I wrote to a family member this morning about couponing.....

You will LOVE couponing! So the most important things are:

1. Find out store policy on coupons- places like WalMart and Target have their policies online or you can always ask for the policy at the service desk

2. Get a Sunday paper! Every week! Go to to find out how many "inserts" will be in that week's paper. I sometimes buy 2 or 3 papers to get extra coupons!

3. You can print coupons from sites like (there is a link on my blog to print directly from there!) or

4. The biggest thing to get from saving a few bucks to saving 50% or more is to do match ups. That's just where you match up your coupons to your store's sale. There are blogs that will do this for you, you just have to find one that matches the store you use. Great places to get deals are drup stores like Walgreens or CVS. Also grocery stores like Kroger and Food Giant have weekly sales and also double some coupons so you can get some great prices! Let me know if you have any more questions!

Also these 2 blogposts give more details:
Also if you are in the West TN area and want to know more, we are hosting our first ever "Coupon Night" at our church April 29!!!! This will be a potluck meal and information session featuring a coupon swap! It's going to be fun and you will learn loads about couponing! For more information email me at ecarter at eplus dot net.

Ham & Coke

When my husband and I first married, we lived in an old house in the historic district of our town with my Mom and stepdad. We lived there for about 2 years with them. One of those old Coca Cola pictures hung in the kitchen. In fact I think that Mom still has that old picture! We loved that house! Unfortunately it was very damaged in 2003 during a tornado. We have some fond memories of the house though, living together and having HUGE holiday gatherings (50+ people)!

One Easter while we were all living in that house, Mom decided to try a new ham recipe. First she and my Memaw went shopping for all the "fixins." That was a memorable trip because Memaw speaks her own language and when she was asking the meat department worker for the ham she kept asking him to "skewa" it. He looked at her quizzically and said "Excuse me Maam?" She replied indignantly, "Skewa it. I want it skewaed!" Well by then the hilarious fits of laughter had taken over and we couldn't interpret for the poor man. Once we had it together we explained that she in fact wanted it skewered. She turned to us and said "That's what I've been tellin him!" From her accent you'd think she was from Georgia, but that's just her name! She's from Tennessee like the rest of us!

That Sunday Mom cooked us a terrific ham luncheon. The ham was made in the crockpot, covered with Coca Cola and pineapple juice and tidbits. We've been making our hams that way every since then! The Coke and Pineapple gives the ham a sweet, rich flavor. The pineapple adds a fresh flavor to it as well. All the Coke and juice keep the ham tender and juicy while it slow cooks in the crockpot! And it works well whether you get the ham "skewaed" or not!

Everyone that comes to a meal when we serve our Coca Cola ham, is amazed by the ingredients! They can't believe it's so easy and that it's Coke that gives it such a wonderful flavor! We now make it for several meals and holidays throughout the year, not just Easter any more! It makes a terrific Sunday lunch because it's ready when you get home! The kids love Coca Cola Ham because it tastes great and they love getting extra Coca Cola!

We are definately a Coca Cola family (not that other soda!) and we incorporate it into many of our meals either as a drink, part of the ham, or on Coca Cola cake! We'll save that little recipe for another day.......

Easy Pillsbury Monkey Bread

Find the recipe I used here- Monkey Bread Recipe.

I made Monkey Bread for the first time last night! I had a couple of cans of biscuits that I needed to use and this was a great way to do it! Now I've had Monkey Bread before, but I had never cooked it before. I followed the recipe from the Pillsbury Grands site. I did use Honey Butter Grands instead of regular (even more yummy goodness!) and I did not put in nuts or raisins. If I had any pecans on hand they would've gone in but I was fresh out. Apple is the only raisin eater in the house so they were a no go.

I followed the instructions and put the results in my Bundt pan (imagine the lady on My Big Fat Greek Wedding saying it! Bount? Bun? But? BUNDT!). I think I should have squished them together a bit. As you can see in the pictures, it wasn't as meshed as it should have been.

Also don't be afraid to cook it the full 32 minutes (or even a few more). I set my timer to 30 mins (to fall in the 28-32 range). It was pretty much impossible to tell if it was cooked all the way through so I took a chance and flipped it out. One side on the bottom was a little doughy still. Not terribly bad but I would've cooked it an extra minute or two if I'd known (I also think that contributed to the piece that pulled apart).

Overall it was good! Very easy! Next time I will cook add pecans, squish a bit, and cook a little longer! This was a very inexpensive dessert though. When I got the bisuits I only paid about .30 a can, the margarine was free, and we always have cinnamon on hand.

On a scale of 1-5, I'd give the recipe a 5!!!! It was easy to follow, inexpensive, and the kids and I really enjoyed it! It would be easy to serve for a get together or to take to a party.

(Is that what you had in mind Dee Dee?)

Review: How to be God's Little Princess

Apple LOVES Sheila Walsh's items. She has the God's Little Princess Devotional Bible and Gigi movie. I cannot even describe how excited she was when this book of Royal Tips of Manners and Etiquette for Girls arrived in the mail! Squeals of delight erupted! I have to say I was excited to get this book for her, but I was absolutely DELIGHTED when I opened it. This isn't just a book on manners. This is an all out GUIDE for girls. Walsh covers dining, relating to your friends, inner beauty, hair, respect for your parents, and much, much more. Serious topics and real advice are intermingled with choosing the coreect tiara and making a grand entrance. This book is beautiful and engaging on the inside and out. Your daughter will want to grab it up and devour the inner pages!

Not only does this guide give all this advice, there are fun word puzzles and pictures to engage your little girl. It takes a humorous approach to manners and proper behavior. In a society where manners and etiquette are rarely ever encouraged, this is a breath of fresh air. I look forward to reading about table manners and proper responses to requests with Apple. She is already giggling at the funny pictures and hilarious captions! She has hardly put it down since it arrived! This would be great for a child to read on their own, go over in a class, or with a parent.

If you have a little princess, I encourage you to pick up this book. I don't think you will be disappointed at all and I know she won't!

I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255 : “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”

Homeschool Update

Note to self: Next year make Spring Break much earlier, the 4th week of April is much too long a wait and will lead to craziness!

As you can see, next week can't come soon enough! My scheduling was really off. I thought making Spring Break the week of Good Friday was the best idea. Ahem. I was wrong (better right that down readers, I don't admit it often!). It just wasn't logical because Apple and I REALLY need a break AND when Spring Break is over, she will only have 3 week of school left. Bad scheduling. I will not make that mistake again!

Anyways! She is right on target with all of her curriculum. She has already completed a couple of items and is working her way through the rest of them. We are right on target to have everything finished by mid May. I am still pondering my way through which items we will use next year. Right now I am leaning towards creating her reading curriculum myself, purchasing an "English" curriculum that deals with sentence structure, parts of speech, etc and spelling, very on the fence about math~ I still feel like she falls somewhere right in the middle of 2 grade levels, I think in the Fall 1st grade math will be way too easy but 2nd grade may be too difficult, purchasing a geography or history curriculum, and we already have a science curriculum for next year.

For Speedy, I really want to get HOP PreK edition and then maybe a few tools to assist with numbers and ABCs. We still have lots of items to work with that we had used with Apple so resources are already in place for him.

I am looking forward to finishing up this week and having some FUN next week!

Back when I first started staying at home, I was subscribed to 2 or 3 cooking magazines. We were on a very tight budget, and I was really interested in new trying new recipes that were easy and inexpensive. As a result I very quickly amasses a LOT of recipes. I got all "over achiever" and decided I would type up all the ones I liked and make a binder. I was typing them in order by catergory and sub catergory (go ahead and laugh Mel). Anyway I got about 100 recipes typed and gave up! It was very time consuming and mind numbing to just type and type and type.

So the binder was pushed to the side and for the last 6 years recipes have just been floating all over my house. I often would get a recipe from a friend, make it a few times, lose the recipe, get the recipe from the friend again, lose the recipe, and repeat (sorry KIM!!!!). Then this became my organization:

Fancy right? I know! Worst part is most of the time, the recipes never got put back in here and it wouldn't hold most of them! A few weeks ago I decided this wasn't going to work anymore. As I was spring cleaning, I found recipes EVERYWHERE! In my bedroom, my office, my kitchen counter, my kitchen pantry, my kitchen cabinents, the living room, my coupon binder, the laundry room... EVERYWHERE!

So I decided to take a cue from my nifty coupon binder and make a recipe binder. I piled all my cookbooks, magazines, recipes, beginnings of a recipe binder, etc in the center of the kitchen table. And they sat there for 2 weeks........ That never happens to you, right?

Saturday I finally had time to tackle them! Hubby was home and the weather was nice so they all went out to play. I took the recipe binder I had started, more page protectors, and baseball card sheets and got down to business! It is by no means perfect, I could have worked on it 3 more hours easily, and I still have a huge stack of magazines that I need to go through, but for now all my loose recipes are stored together in one place! There are dividers for bread/ appetizers, soups/ salads, entrees, breakfast, sides, and desserts.

This is my "finished" product":

I feel better that there is at least some type of order in this area now. I won't have to keep calling Kim for that granola bar recipe and when I get ready to take a dish somewhere I don't have to always make that one recipe I have memorized!

In the near future, I hope to purchase another 3 ring, zippered binder like I use for my coupons (maybe the one I use for coupons now because its already buldging...) and make it even more functional.

Did you know Peeps has a new online store???? Check it out here. This is great because Peeps are fantastic!

They are fun to play with, good to eat, a recognizable symbol of Easter, and they make great decorations! When I was a kid I always looked forward to finding those little yellow chicks in my Easter baskets. They were always in there! I loved biting the heads off and then savoring all the yummy marshmallow inside! It was one of the best parts of Easter. The color always reminded me of freshly bloomed buttercups (another of my favorite spring time items!).

My kids haven't developed a taste for Peeps yet. They always eat them, but I can tell it isn't with the same gusto I do! I have hope for them yet though! I will continue to fill their Easter baskets with Peeps until they see what a fun, special treat they are!

There is something extra special about a candy or food that's only found one time of year. I mean most candy bars can be picked up any day of the week at any store. When I see Peeps at Easter or candy canes at Christmas, I get so excited! It means the holiday is almost here! And who doesn't love holidays? (Only the Grinch!)

I mentioned decorations earlier, Peeps make great wreaths and center pieces for Easter festivities! They are so colorful and fun, they can just be placed around a plate and put at the middle of the table! They are sure to be noticed and talked about! Want to make a special Easter cake? Decorate a 9X13 cake with edible grass and lay some Peeps around on it. Ta-da perfect for that special family gathering! Or make cupcakes and put one Peep on top of each one! You can also float Peeps in your hot chocolate. Put a Peep on a skewer, make a dozen of them and you have a cute vase of Peeps for the table center or food bar. Hide packs of Peeps instead of Easter eggs! No filling required!

Of course Peeps aren't just yellow chicks anymore, you can find them in pink, purple, and blue and also in other fun shapes like bunnies!Yellow chicks will always be my favorite though because they take me right back to special Easter baskets. Ahh those were the days, when I just got to hunt the eggs instead of fill them and hide them!

Little Switch= BIG Difference

The little switch that has made a big difference in my marriage recently has been our nightly "dates." About a month ago, the hubby and I began watching our favorite show together on Netflix. Without talking about it, it became a habit. Once we put the kids down for bedtime, we both head to the couch and flip it on. We usually have a snack and just enjoy 45 mins to an hour and a half together. That's either one or two episodes. It depends on what time we sit down as to how many we watch.

I am a person that has a hard time sitting still. I'm always thinking of all the things I need to be doing. This time together felt a little forced at first. I trouble letting go of the dishes in the sink or the laundry. However as the nights passed, it became easier and easier. Now this little time together is something that I look forward to all day.

I honestly think it has made me more productive. Now that I know I cam look forward to the break, I don't take little breaks all day long. I work on the house and other things during the day so I'm ready when Netflix time rolls around. I sure am glad we picked a television show with lots of seasons! We won't be running out of episodes anytime soon! The great thing about Netflix is there are tons of series to watch if we do ever finish this one!

Which show is it, you ask? Well I'll give you a little's all about Stabler, Benson, Munch, and Tutu! The theme is related to the hubby's line of work.......And it's a fantastic show! We both have always liked these kinds of dramas! We do make an exception on Monday night. Instead of Netflix we watch Castle on ABC. That's our second favorite show together!

So I'd like to encourage you to make a date with your husband! Every night in fact! These dates don't cost us anything, we don't even have to find a babysitter. It's a great way for us to feel connected and make sure that we spend time together without the kids. Even though this was an accidental little switch, it has made the biggest difference for us!

Review: God Gave Us You

God Gave Us You by Lisa Tawn Bergren is a fabulous book for children. It explores where babies come from in the mildest way. With some beautiful illustrations by Laura J. Bryant, young children can get a brief, age appropriate idea of pregnancy and birth. God's gift of babies is explored with animals and warm words. This is a terrific read for any young child that is asking questions about where babies come from. It would be fabulous for any family.

This book was especially appropriate for our kids because they have a new cousin coming soon and our cat just had kittens. Although Apple has asked lots of questions about babies before, this book just solidified everything we had already told her. For any family with a new baby on the way or new animal arriving, this book would be a great springboard for conversation.

It is also another way to discuss God's love with your children. It will help to explain further their unique qualities that God has given them. We all love this book!

My favorite quote from the book, "Yes, my special child. God gave us you." What child doesn't want to hear that?

You can find our more at Waterbrook Multnomah.

I received this book for the purpose of review from Waterbrook Multnomah. The opinions are entirely my own.

Mix Plates

So I always enjoy seeing all the Muffin Tin Monday posts on other blogs. Unfortunately all our muffin tins are HUGE (way too big for lunch)! I've even priced muffin tins several times for the sole purpose of doing muffin tin Mondays however muffin tins are EXPENSIVE! So........a few weeks ago we began having mixed plates for lunch.

Let me give you a little background. Speedy doesn't eat. He doesn't enjoy eating. I think it stems mostly from the fact that he doesn't enjoy sitting. He is picky but more than that he just doesn't like to eat. I've worried over, bugged my pediatrician about it, bugged my friends and family about it. There isn't any cure to non eating. He is perfectly healthy, just a little on the scrawny side. So anyway other than Pediasure Sidekicks, I have to find ways to get calories in the boy. Welcome mix plates.....

He has never liked his food to touch so we have several of the divided plates. One day I only had a little of something I thought they would like so I split it onto 2 divided plates and filled the rest of the sections with a variety of foods. I orginally tried to call them variety plates but the kids changed the name to mix plates. They both just asked for a mix plate for lunch.

Here's a picture of a random one:

That day it was Double Noodle soup, Wheat Thins Stix, yogurt, and Dole Fruit Crisps Pear/ Apple. This has been a great way for me to get fruits and veggies in their lunches, give them a variety of foods, and use up some things that might have gone to waste otherwise! Lots of days have had servings of leftovers from the night before. Speedy is more interested in eating these lunches because it has lots of choices and nothing touches!

Anyway just wanted to give everyone an alternative to Muffin Tin Mondays or boring lunches! BTW another great way to do these would be in our Easy Lunchboxes! That is a product I love and that some of you have asked me about at playdates! A great way to take a mix plate on the road!
