The Imagination Station 8 Battle for Cannibal Island and The Imagination Station 9 Escape to the Hiding Place are Apple's newest favorite books! Let's face it, this girl reads 10-15 books a week (at least). I can't preview them all. I can't read as many as she does. Well I guess I could if I didn't have to cook....or clean.....or teach them....... right. So I depend on the recommendations of friends, reviews I see online, and books from trusted sources like Adventures in Odyssey.
I know the books from AiO will be subjects that I don't mind without any material that is inappropriate. She practically CONSUMED these books when they arrived. She had them both read in two days and she hasn't stopped talking about them! Here is a little of what she had to say:
Me: What was the most interesting thing in the books?
Apple: "Well the one about the cannibal king the most interesting thing was when Tooki shot his arrow into the water. In the other book, I liked when the woman took the kids to help them."
Me: What was one thing you didn't like in the books?
Apple: "In the cannibal book, I did not like when the 2 prisoners almost got out! In the other book, I didn't like that they had to be patrolled and certain people could not go out at night."
Me: Why do you think other kids should read these books?
Apple: "Because they are very good and they tell us a little about how people communicate and how other people might have lived."
An extra bonus to these particular books is that they are gender neutral. They have a female and a male lead. So when Speedy is ready (which won't be long! He's doing great!), he will be happy to read these as well. I love that the books present situations where the characters are all able to express their faith. In order for our kids to be comfortable presenting their faith, they need as many examples of others doing so as possible. Although these are clearly fictional situations they can gain confidence in speaking up about their love for Jesus!
We are now on the lookout for books 1-7 in this series and #10 will release in January 2013!
I received these books for the purpose of review from the Tyndale Blog Network. All opinions are my own.
