Blessings Every Day

What do you want to do differently in 2014? I've already shared with you that I just want to relax and let God take control. That's what I want for Apple and Speedy too. That they could learn right now that God is in charge and that there is no need for them to worry over earthly woes. At their young ages the best route is to keep them soaked in God's word. Apple is reading her Bible in a Year for Kids. I'm so excited about her journey through the whole Bible in 2014. I'm hoping it leads to some amazing discussions. Now I want Speedy to begin Every Day a Blessing: A Year of God's Love.

We're getting a little bit of a late start but hey better late than never, right? Actually it won't be hard for us to "catch up" because this devotional isn't dated. Instead there are entries for each day of the week and one for weekends. This is a great format especially for young readers! Speedy tends to like things orderly so it is better for him (and me) that he won't be starting on an off date and that he won't get behind if we miss a day or two. I'm excited about this devotional because he will be able to read the passages himself. He's been using a nice devotional for school time but it wasn't made for early readers and so I was reading it to him most days. I'm looking forward to having him read this one to me. The daily entries are short. They include a title, a verse, 2-3 short paragraphs, and an activity or question to help with the day's lesson.

While the entries aren't dated, some of the entries will follow along with things that should be happening around that time of year like spring, summer, back to school, etc. Other topics include God being all around us, sharing blessings, and Sunday school. These little thoughts and verses are just what Speedy needs to stay focused on God all year! I'm looking forward to my discussions with him as well.

I received a free copy of this book from Tommy Nelson for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own.

  1. By teaching them small prayers and telling them parables..

  2. we do family devotions (bible reading and prayers) every day before bed and we have a stuffed angel that visits each girls bedroom once a week with an insperational message and bible verse.

  3. Continue with the Bible study and prayer we've been doing with our kids. Bring God into every day conversations, not just about church or the Bible study, but in everything. Helping them to ingest the scripture, not just hear it, but put it into practice. Scratch that. I'm going to be helping me to do that too.

  7. We pray often and as a family, we try to be intentional in talking about God throughout the day, we listen to kid's worship music, and read lots of Bible stories. My husband and I try (though fail often) to "walk the walk" so they can see our actions speaking louder than our words.

  13. We plan on keeping Jesus at the center of our home by attending church faithfully, reading our Bibles regularly and praying regularly. Also by showing how He is present in the small things in life!

  14. With all the activities scheduled, we don't sit down to eat as a family every evening so we are trying to do this more often with a different meal prayer from an awesome book that we have.
