Time for a New Adventure

Heirloom Audio Productions sent us their newest adventure The Dragon and the Raven as a review item for the Crew. My kids went crazy! They love the G.A. Henty stories told as audio dramas from Heirloom Audio. This is our third review item for them, and I can tell you my kids cannot pick a favorite. They love them all! We received the 2 CD set that contains over 2 hours of audio theater and access to digital products that included a study guide, cast poster, original score, quote poster, and a download of the audio theater production.

The Dragon and the Raven {Heirloom Audio Productions Review}
This time the audio theatre comes alive with the story of King Alfred vs. the Danes. It is a story of Christians vs. pagans. This story moves from land to sea and back again. The excitement is enhanced by the wonderful cast. Helen George, from Call the Midwives, and John Rhys-Davies, of The Lord of the Rings, are just 2 of the well known names on the cast list. All of the Heirloom Audio Christian audio dramas are professionally done with well known voices providing the exciting adventures of the characters.

We enjoy listening to audiobooks in the car. Our ride to "town" is about 20 minutes each way. We quickly work through CDs with our regular trips. The Dragon and the Raven gave us entertainment on a trip to see family. I always appreciate that I don't need to listen to these stories before listening to them with the kids. The four of us all enjoyed this adventure on our trip. This is an exciting story with lots of sword clinking and anticipation! It is also a journey of faith and extending mercy to enemies. What better way to encourage our children's own faith than to share stories like this with them?

The digital study guide included with The Dragon and the Raven was one of the most extensive I've seen with an audiobook. It is a total of 49 pages. There is a complete cast list and information on some of the other adventures from Heirloom Audio Productions. The rest of the pages focus on turning this audiobook into a full study tool. We like to go over the questions as a discussion but the guide can also be printed and the questions could be answered in written form. There are "Listening Well" questions to discuss the story. Then there are "Thinking Further" questions to incorporate some critical thinking. There are even "Defining Words" to study vocabulary words used in the story. Each page gives the disc and timing that the questions are referring to. The guide even includes a full section of Bible story. The multiple choice questions give some great study to Bible verse references. The digital study guide goes on to give some additional history information too. So this could be a great resource for a study of the history of the Saxons and Danes. It could also be a study of Christians in history or a Bible study on faith.

The Dragon and the Raven is now on the shelf next to In Freedom's Cause and With Lee in Virginia. Apple and Speedy enjoy listening to them again and again. I appreciate that the stories are family friendly and give a historical view with a message of faith. I recommend these audio dramas all the time and now I have another one to add to the list!
